On the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi lies Los Arrayanes National Park. The park extends over more than 1,700 hectares and can be reached from the town of Villa La Angostura. It is located on the Quetrihué Peninsula and contains a very unusual, centuries-old forest The arrayán tree is actually a member of the Myrtaceae family and therefore comes into bloom with little white flowers then produces a fruit similar to that of the common myrtle. When you enter the arrayán forest and walk around in it, it feels strange and mystical. Unusually and surprisingly, the bark of the trees is actually cinnamon coloured, and though the trees grow very slowly they do eventually reach 20 metres in height. There is a narrow path here that takes you on a 14-kilometre walk through the undergrowth and around the forest. <a href="/argentina/">This is definitely a nice place to visit when in Argentina</a>!

I went to take a tour of the pretty Bosque de Arrayanes from Villa La Angostura. A pleasant walk in a peninsular park in the middle of the Nahuel Huapi, including a unique forest, little lakes and awesome views. 
To be honest, there is so much to see in the area, but I wouldn't say that this place is the biggest must-see on <a href="/argentina/">your journey in Argentina</a>. But if you have a little time, why not go there for a little tour? And if you're a fan of botany, you can't miss the trip. 
If you want, it's also possible to get there from the same departure city or from Bariloche. (I didn't try this option.) FYI: the walk/bike ride is very easy, and beside the views of the Nahuel Huapi, the encounter with these unique trees that are over 400 years old will be the highlight of your trip. As a matter of fact, unless you're an expert photographer, it can be difficult to find the angle and the light capturing this discovery. And one slide less for your special evening back from your travels...
