You must visit Hasankeyf as quickly as possible, because a dam project will soon completely cover this little gem.

Classed under World Heritage by Unesco for its numerous Ottoman houses, Safranbolu has conserved the charm of its old cities. Famous for its saffron, it is pleasant to wander its paved streets, to admire its aqueduct or to go and explore the caves of Bulak, nearby.

It's hard to imagine, as you march along Alanya's streets, that this concrete jungle was once a small, quaint fishing village. The arrival of mass tourism, largely thanks to package holidays, has changed Turkey for the worst in some ways. You now find cheap, hastily built complexes designed for only one thing - making money. It's a far cry from responsible tourism. When I arrived at Alanya, there was only one thing I wanted to do. Leave. Immediately. Western tourists divide their time between the beach, the pool, the nightclubs, tacky gift shops and the concrete town centre. There are plenty of better ways to <a href="/turkey/">have a great time in Turkey</a> !
