Hasankeyf is in south-eastern Turkey, a very small city containing numerous natural and human wonders. Associated with a rich, ancient history, the diverse geological and archaeological particularities definitely make this village a place to visit. You must visit Hasankeyf as quickly as possible, because a dam project will soon completely cover this little gem.

Classed under World Heritage by Unesco for its numerous Ottoman houses, Safranbolu has conserved the charm of its old cities. Famous for its saffron, it is pleasant to wander its paved streets, to admire its aqueduct or to go and explore the caves of Bulak, nearby.

You don't visit Canakkale in the same way as you would Cappadoce or Bodrum. The region tells of a bloody past and inspires a feeling of restrant. Having gone there during the winter months, the deserted feel of the place was only amplified. Located on the straits of the Dardanelles, the memorial to the martyrs pays homage to the thousands who died in the Battle of Gallipoli. The year 2015 marked the centenary of this terrible battle and many commemorations were planned.
In the same area, make sure you explore the remains of Troy, which I haven't actually visited myself.
If you don't have any personal reasons to visit Canakkale, such as a particular interest in Turkish history or a family connection, I don't recommend these sites as must-sees. It's better to save them for a second trip to Turkey, or a long stay in the country.

Known for its bloody battles, Canakkale tells of some of the most turbulent parts of Turkish history.

Located on the Asian banks of the Dardanelles Strait, its strategic position at the gateway to Asia means it has been of military importance since time immemorial. To begin with, there's the legendary city of Troy, the site of which is just a stone's throw from the modern city of Çanakkale, which was written about superbly by Homer in the Iliad. Be warned though: I was quite disappointed by this site, finding it to be fairly devoid of interesting ruins.
