Ao Nang is a seaside resort which has one of the most famous beaches near Krabi, on the southwest coast of Thailand. Most of the excursions to the surrounding islands leave from here.

My suggestion:

If you are staying at Ao Nang for a few days, then use the time to visit the Mu Koh Phi Phi-Nopparathara National Park. It is made up of 6 absolutely magnificent islands!

My review

After having seen the town of Krabi, I was looking forward to seeing what its legendary beaches were like. It turns out that even though it becomes more famous each year, and so it has more and more people on it, Ao Nang is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.

After a short trip in a songthaew, the local bus, I discovered a long beach bordered with mountains and palm trees, turquoise water, and immense sugar-loaf rocks rising from the sea...Real picture postcard scenery, ideal for family vacations.

If you are staying in Ao Nang you can expect walks, swimming, diving, lazing about on the sand, and excursions to the surrounding islands, not forgetting to visit the superb unmissable beaches at Rai Leh and Nopparat Thara!

Ao Nang is a district of the neighboring province and city of Krabi, located on the Andaman coast, which is famous for its beaches and steep cliffs.

My suggestion:
Take time to explore the other attractions the region has to offer, beyond just its beaches. The charm of Krabi lies in its temples, its national parks and their natural pools, and its rocky peaks.
My review

Krabi is the type of destination where it's difficult to know where to start, there's so much to see and do. Fortunately, Ao Nang is more focused and does not present the same difficult dilemma. It's basically all about relaxation, especially for those not scared of sporting activities on holiday, though not just for them. This is because Ao Nang is surrounded by cliffs and these serve as a rock climbers' playground.

Being the more cautious type, I contented myself with a canoe trip alongside the superb Railay Beach, which can only be accessed by boat. This site consists of a large beach bounded by cliffs at both ends on one side, and on the other side mangroves, offering an astonishing contrast. The cliffs in the center are the site of a small cave where you can see carved wooden penises. These are placed there because, according to local beliefs, a goddess of fertility inhabits the cave.

There are several other beaches at Ao Nang. The largest, tothe north, isthe most peaceful of these, and with good cause: there is nothing otherthan a fewsmallresorts there. Ifyou want a little excitement, you have to go to the right area for it, in the center of Ao Nang. It's difficult to miss because the lights of its restaurants, large hotels and various massage salonswill draw your eyes like a moth to a flame.

In the south of Thailand, a few kilometers from Krabi, is Ao Nang, a small colorful coastal town.

My suggestion:
To explore the surroundings, I advise renting a scooter, or staying in Krabi where the prices are more affordable.
My review

Ao Nang is more of a holiday town than a real town. On both sides of the street restaurants, hotels (each more expensive than the last), and boutiques are going up as fast as lightning. You have to leave town in order to meet locals or find more typical restaurants.

Apart from that, Ao Nang is situated in the heart of a dazzling karst landscape.. The enormous beach seems to promise long walks with the wild monkeys. You can watch wonderful sunsets which you'll never get bored of.

If Ao Nang is a nice enough place to spend a few days during a trip to Thailand without feeling too disoriented, the town has nothing typical or traditional about it.
