Wiang Chai is a small city a few miles east of Chiang Rai and is a major staging post for visits to the Golden Triangle.

My suggestion:
Just south of the city is Nong Luang Lake where research into fishing and piscicultural resources is being carried out. While you’re there, you can take a walk around the lake, it’s well worth it, trust me!
My review

When I was staying in Chiang Rai I was dying to know what the Golden Triangle was like, so I hired a motorbike and set off to explore the region. Wiang Chai was my first stop on the road.

The landscape around Wiang Chai is mostly made up of rice paddies where you can see the locals working during the day, and in the distance are the mountains looming above the fields. If you get the chance to go there when the rice is still brilliant green, you’ll find the views even more amazing.

If you get the urge to play a few rounds, you’ll find an 18 hole golf course at the Santiburi Country Club, near the city of Wiang Chai, ideal for lovers of sporting vacations!
