Ubon Ratchathani is supposed to have more temples per head of population than any other town in Thailand. When I walked round town, I quickly understood why, you can see a temple on nearly every street corner! My favorites were Wat Thung Si Muang, a beautiful wooden temple on a small stretch of water, and Wat Nong Bua, with its 55 meter high white and gold stupa.
If you like finding out about culture during your trip, you should know that Ubon Ratchathani has a national museum which contains a very rich collection of historical art and artifacts of the region and is a good way to learn more about Isan.
