Lots of people call Sri Lanka the pearl of Asia. It's true that it's a magnificent place to go and you will have an unforgettable holiday. But before you get to those white, velvety soft beaches, your trip to Sri Lanka begins with packing your suitcase. Be careful what you pack because it won't be easy to find anything that you have forgotten once you're there.
As far as clothes are concerned, it's obviously very hot in Sri Lanka so you'll need light clothes. But be careful, if you intend to visit the centre of the island, it gets cooler in higher altitudes. So don't forget to take something which will keep you warm. If you want to visit temples and other religious sites you must wear clothes that cover your arms and your legs. And finally, for the beach, don't forget your best swim suit. If you want to explore the superb sea beds then you'll need a mask and tube for snorkelling. Although it's not really necessary to bring your own as you can always rent one there.
In your first aid kit, as well as the normal medicines for small scrapes, bring something for tummy problems, sun cream to protect you from the sun's rays , and mosquito repellent.
If you want to take home some souvenirs of your trip you will need a camera or video camera. Don't forget a credit card for getting money and a photocopy of your passport in case you lose it. If you intend to rent a vehicle and drive in Sri Lanka you will need an international driving licence which you can get from the Post Office. Everything seems ready. All that's left now is to take off.
