Sur has an almost unreal beauty. Even though I'm not a great lover of Eastern details, but it must be acknowledged that Sur gives the impression of being a port right out of a tale of "One Thousand and One Nights." The white of its buildings and the wood of its slatted balconies contrast with the deep blue of the sea and the yellow of the shore. A few earthen forts and the bluish domes of the mosques punctuate the landscape.
Even if the shore is especially beautiful, go inside the city to discover the souq. There are still artisans and you'll be delighted by the highly authentic Oman. Something else I also liked was the dhow construction sites that are found near the lagoon.
There really aren't a whole lot of things to see in Sur, and yet it's truly a city that I recommend to discover during your stay in Oman just for its beauty and atmosphere.
Sur is a traditional town: its port, surrounded by white houses, offers a wonderful walk, with a few of the sea and typical Omani boats (dhows). At only 4km away from the town, you can visit the dhow shipyards. It will be a must-see visit during your stay in Sur, so that you can contemplate the construction of these traditional wooden boats.
I would also remember Bilad Sur Fort: built using earth to protect Sur against interior invasions, this is a place full of history Of course, don't hesitate to go to the town's market It will always give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and meet local people. You will always discover new flavours and new products which don't exist in Europe.
