Ras Al Jinz and its turtles

Ras Al Jinz is located on the coast, approximately three hours' drive south of Muscat. It's a must-see place for nature lovers who want to see a phenomenon which is protected, but is more and more rare.

Turtles nesting

In Oman, sea turtles, or green turtles, come to the coasts every year to nest, in particular to Ras Al Jinz. It's the research centre at Ras Al Jinz which welcomes these turtles, from June to September, with approximately 30,000 of them nesting there.

These visits are organised by the centre and they mainly take place early in the morning or at night. It's a moment to store in your memory and difficult to immortalise as camera flashes are forbidden so as not to disturb the animals.

Numerous turtles come to nest on Ras Al Jinz's beaches, outside the research centre. If you have the opportunity to be there, you're advised not to disturb the turtles or intervene.

Waters full of resources

During your trip to Oman, you may notice that the water surrounding the country is packed with resources. Indeed, as well as being able to see turtles on land, it's also possible to find them during a scuba dive. These huge turtles, weighing approximately 150 kg, will amaze you with their majestic and captivating dance.

But there's more than just turtles! Flying fish, manta rays and other dolphins are also part of the show. Lovers of scuba diving, just like novices, will be able to appreciate this luxurious setting, which is accessible all year round.

Numerous diving clubs are located along the coasts, as well as in Muscat. Don't hesitate to contact them in advance in order to see the circuits that are offered depending on the club's location.
