I found Lake Isli to be an incredibly beautiful lake : its shape is perfectly round and its water has a rare purity. All the same, avoid bathing: the lake is deep and its water is very cold.
In spring, I loved to see the lake light up in a sparkling blue colour thanks to the sky's reflections, right in the middle of a mountainous landscape which turns to green in bloom. But the most unusual thing about Lake Isli is its history.
The history of Lake Isli is linked to that of themoussemof Imilchil's Fiancés. According to the legend, a couple of lovers from two rival Berber tribes wanted to marry but couldn't, as their parents refused to bless their union. With broken hearts, the two youths drowned themselves, each in a lake formed from their own tears: Isli for the young man and Tislit for the young woman. A real Berber Romeo and Juliet!
