Lying 200 km from Merida, the little island of Isla Holbox is a veritable haven of peace and tranquility. In contrast to the atmosphere of Cancún, this place is a lover's paradise, and life is simple and traditional here.

My suggestion

There are some very bitey, very irritating little flies around at sunrise and they make a beeline for every tiny patch of exposed bare skin. You need to either cover yourself or stay sheltered until the sun is a bit higher in the sky and the flies depart of their own accord.

If you are looking for frenzied festivals and all-inclusive hotel complexes this is not the place for you - the key word here is "tranquillity".
