Land of the Antakarana ethnic group – those from the cliffs –, Diego Suarez is also a happy mix of various origins: Comorians, Chinese, Indians and Europeans cohabit there. Antsiranana, which was once a pirates' hide-out, is now a water sports paradise. The Emerald Sea, its beaches of fine sand and its bays all offer sublime panoramic views on the coral reef.
