The ecological specificity of the site prompted the WWF to mark it out as a marine reserve. The Vezo fishing village was also awarded the Equator Prize by the UNO for its project connected with the sustainable conservation and management of the marine biodiversity.
This makes Andavodoaka a mecca for deep-sea diving. In fact, not far from here lies the wreck of a Portuguese galleon for you to explore.
