Nestled between the mountains and the Indian Ocean, Fort Dauphin or Tolagnaro translates to "place of dreams" in Malagasy. Its status as a peninsula gives it three distinct bays.

My review

In the middle of the desert bush, Fort Dauphin is a soothing oasis with lush landscapes! From forests to mountains, and rivers to lakes and even mangroves, Tolagnaro has plenty to see... and it's a must if you plan to visit the south of Madagascar.

Pic St. Louis, a sugarloaf that rises to 1735 feet above sea level, offers a breath-taking view of the Vohimena Mountains, Lake Andiriambe and Sainte Luce, among other sights.

Fort Dauphin is also a city that's steeped in history: it was a stop on the famous route to India. A witness to the era, Flacourt Fort dates from the 17th century. The first signs of the Portuguese in the region date back to the 15th century, on the other hand. The city is divided into two sections: the first is where you'll find the administrative centre and its colonial architecture, and the second is the gathering place for the bush taxis and the Tanambo market.
