Croatia: home to a host of famous people

With a rich history and a strong cultural identity, Croatia has produced a wealth of national and international celebrities in all areas. Science, sport, literature, cinema, painting, sculpture, poetry; all fields can boast famous stars.

In the world of music

During a visit to Croatia, you must not miss out on the wonderful music scene, both traditional and modern. Klapa is the traditional characteristic Croatian singing, Klapa Crikvenica being one of the most famous groups.

Alongside this, a host of new talent is emerging: two cellists Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser have created a furor with their instrumental arrangements of well-known songs, while the singers Olivier and Severina are topping the charts and making the headlines (the latter because of her lifestyle!). Let's not forget Natalie Dizdar, the more edgy Hladno Pivo and the classical stars: the pianist Maksim Mrvica and the countertenor Max Emanuel Cenčić. Far from being an exhaustive list, these are just a few of the many Croatian celebrities.

The fine arts

A visit to Croatia is a unique opportunity to discover an exceptional artistic heritage and the work of world class artists. The world of the arts has a multitude of celebrities such the brilliant Ivan Meštrovis. This sculptor enjoys international success and his work can be seen all over the world. There is also August Augustini, whose work your can admire throughout the country.

As for painting, the group known as the Hlébine naïve painters, amongst them Dragan Gaži and Josip Generalic, founded an exceptional artistic movement in the 1930s.

and many more

Croatian celebrities are so numerous across so many sectors that it is impossible to list them all. Yet we must also mention celebrities such as the film producer Branko Lustic (Shindler's List and Gladiator), the explorer Marco Polo, the inventor of the ballpoint pen Slavoljub Penkala, the skier Janica Kostelić or Picasso's muse Dora Maar.
