Canada is an immense country which has a low density of population but nevertheless has a prolific production of well-known and influential personalities and celebrities in a variety of domains. Briefly, here are the most well-known.
There are lots of top level sports people in several disciplines. For example, George Saint-Pierre who is a martial arts expert, and the Canadian champion of the series Ultimate Fighting. There is also Bruny Surin, who is the world 100 m champion. Father and son, Gilles and Jacques Villeneuve are Formula 1 champions. The national sport is ice hockey and Mario Lemieux won the Olympics and the playoffs for the Stanley Cup, twice in a row.
For years, William Shatner was Captain Kirk in the famous television series Star Trek. Pamela Anderson comes from British Colombia, and became famous in the popular American series Baywatch, but also appeared several times in Playboy. I'm not sure if her success was due solely to her artistic talents!
In cinema there are the directors, Robert Lepage and James Cameron, the first Quebecois and the other from Ontario. The actor, Mike Myers. Who is best known for playing Austin Powers. There is also the famous Jim Carrey who is Canadian, and Roy Dupuis who is very popular in Quebec.
There are several singers who are internationally famous in very varied styles! Actually, Canada is full of well-known singers, amongst whom are some highly renowned artists. For example, Celine Dion, Neil Young, Justin Bieber, Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Avril Lavigne, Billy Talent, Leonard Cohen, Michel Bublé, etc.
The Cirque du Soleil famously reinvented the circus and has become well-known all over the world. If you have the change to see a show during a trip to Canada don't miss it.
