Souvenirs from the land of maple syrup

Canada: where delicious treats come first...

The land of maple syrup

The Canadian national symbol is the maple leaf. In addition to the country's famous maple syrup, you can also enjoy butter, sweets and other maple-based products that will remind you of your trip to Canada. As far as syrup is concerned, pay close attention to what it is made of: you should always choose pure maple syrup, not glucose syrup! Get the syrup right, and your pancakes are bound to be a hit at Sunday breakfast when you return!

Cranberries are another typically Canadian product: this famous, slightly acidic berry can be used in sweet dishes and to add a tangy contrast to meat dishes. Canada also produces whisky and beer. Also make sure that you take home a mould for making square brownies! All good Canadians have one, and your children will love you at teatime if you get one as well!

American Indian products and... sports kit!

In the west, you'll find a number of traditional American Indian objects, such as jewellery and leather moccasins, and even works of art. If you prefer, you can buy soapstone sculptures with designs based on Inuit art instead. If you're sporty, your trip to Canada can be a dream opportunity to completely kit yourself out: prices are lower than in Britain, and the quality is right up there.

Shopping in Canada

Other traditional Canadian souvenirs

In virtually every Canadian souvenir shop, you'll find T-shirts, baseball caps, key rings, calendars and other classic souvenirs. Admittedly you can find that sort of thing anywhere in the world, but Canadians themselves love this sort of thing, so don't hesitate to stock up on gifts. Take a small stuffed toy or a maple leaf keyring to give to each of your friends. You'll also unearth a number of objects decorated with the country's iconic animals such as moose, beavers, squirrels, whales and grizzly bears. You can also take home a CD of folk music or something more current.
