Start planning your summer trip to Bali

Located to the east of Java, the island of Bali is famed for its volcanic mountains and splendid beaches. Summer in Bali is the warmest and driest time of year, when you can relax in long days of unbroken sunshine. The delicious food, beautiful backdrops, and warm Balinese hospitality make this Indonesian paradise the perfect summer vacation destination.

Why should I visit Bali in the summer?

In the summer, Bali sees up to 12 hours of sunshine daily, little to no rainfall, and consistently warm temperatures. This makes summer the best time to visit to enjoy Bali's spectacular beaches and undulating, verdant landscapes, which are dotted with Hindu temples.

Best things to do in Bali in the summer

Soaking up the sunshine on Bali's magnificent beaches and taking long bike rides through the verdant rice paddies are just two excellent summer activities to enjoy here. Dine at fabulous roadside restaurants, and catch the sunset at the island's ethereal temples like the striking Tanah Lot.

Cycle through Ubud

Famous as the setting for best-selling novel Eat Pray Love, the ultimate way to experience Ubud's serenity is by bike. Take to a two-wheeler and lose yourself in the maze of terraced rice paddies and intriguing temples surrounding Bali's cultural capital.

Sail to Nusa Penida

Indonesia has over 17,000 islands, and one of its most spectacular, Nusa Penida, is located just a short boat ride away from Bali. Soak up the sun on palm tree-lined coves, and take in the jaw-dropping vistas from the Thousand Islands Viewpoint.

Visit Ulun Danu Beratan

Famed for being one of Bali's most spectacular temples, Ulun Danu Bratan, also known as the 'floating temple,' is located on the shores of Lake Bratan. Visit the temple with a local guide to learn about its cultural significance, and then explore the surrounding landscape and villages.

Hike Mount Batur

Combine two of Bali's highlights, hiking and spectacular sunrises, and catch dawn breaking from high above this tropical paradise on a climb with a guide. It might mean setting your alarm for an early start, but it's worth every second as you gaze out at the verdant horizon from the top.

Explore Elephant Cave

A 10-minute drive from Ubud, Elephant Cave has fascinating, intricate carvings that have become a local highlight. Don't miss the elephant carving located close to the entrance of the cave, and inside, admire the statue of the Hindu elephant god, Ganesh.

What’s the weather like in Bali in the summer?

Owing to its location just a few degrees below the equator, Bali's summertime is generally between May and September when there's little rainfall and perennial sunshine. Daily averages during the summer hover around the 80°F mark. Be prepared for it to be much hotter during the mid-afternoon sun, which is exceptionally strong here close to the equator. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and adequate water are a must.
