The island of Serangan is nicknamed 'Turtle Island' thanks to the variety of turtles you'll spot when snorkelling or diving. There are numerous tourist centres that benefit from this unusual attraction. Note: there's only one turtle conservation centre, which is on the edge of town and hard to find - even my taxi driver didn't know where it was. You can go on a guided tour and learn all about turtles, as well as the centre's conservation projects. You can even adopt a turtle and release it back into the wild!
The island is small, being only 3km by 1km and I had the chance to laze on the beach and explore the depths.
It's touristy but fun all the same. You can also go swimming with dolphins, but I'm against this as the animals are often mistreated.
A visit to the Pura Sakenan Temple is, however, well worth the while. It's one of the six most sacred temples on the island of Bali.
