Armed with my map and travelling as a passenger, if not behind the wheel, was how I toured Australia for several months. Even before setting foot on Kangaroo Island, Shell Beach and Turquoise Beach, I knew they would be the stuff of dreams. You may well recognise the names and be itching to go...And once back home, like me, you'll be the first to tell your friends that you spent an afternoon at Turquoise Beach during your trip to Australia. How cool is that!
Turquoise Beach is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful in Australia. I remember being alone on this huge stretch of white sand, with only the sound of waves for company. Trust me, you'll feel like you're the king of the world, at the Earth's end. Having brought my kit, I spent several hours snorkelling and spotted a range of colourful fish as well as superb corals and manta rays.
Even though Ningaloo Reef is still well preserved, the Great Barrier Reef is dying, partly due to the negative effects of mass toursim. So it's imperative you respect the coral reef ecosystem that lines the coast.
