With its arid, deserted landscapes and its large water holes located next to the roads, around which herds of buffalo and elephant gather to drink, Uda Walawe is a dream destination for safari enthusiasts.

My suggestion:
Try to arrive just before sunrise so that you can make the most of the visit to Uda Walawe before it gets to hot.
My review
The scenery at Uda Walaw differs entirely from what I saw in the rest of the country. This aspect alone makes a visit to this park a unique experience when  touring Sri Lanka. It's easy to organise a half-day trip to Uda Walawe from any of the cities in the South.

I felt a certain apprehension upon arriving at Uda Walawe in the early morning, in a jeep specially equipped for touring the park. Seeing so many vehicles filled with tourists and ready to set off at the park entrance made me feel a little worried. Very quickly, however, the jeeps all headed off in different directions and we were then on our own in the park.

One thing is certain: Uda Walawe National Park delivers what it promises. Those who like seeing plants and wildlife won't be disappointed. Don't have any hesitation in talking with the accompanying guides: they are usually very knowledgeable about the park.
