Coastal city in north-east Korea.

My suggestion:
The Gangneung Danoje Festival, which takes place every year at the beginning of June, is a good way to discover Korean traditions.
My review

The city of Gangneung doesn't hold any particular interest in itself, other than its beaches. On the other hand, it's easy to get around to explore the surrounding areas, and the food is very good and rather good value for money, as with everywhere in Korea. In the surrounding areas, I found the natural landscapes very beautiful, in particular the pine forests down the length of the coast.

The annual Danoje Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the country, and it's on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. During this period, you can go to folk shows and take part in traditional activities, such as making masks and Korean wrestling... It's also a good opportunity to discover local specialities, spicy, of course.
