Located right at the very northern tip of Mindoro, the name 'Puerto Galera' refers to both the town itself and to the two tourist zones adjacent to it, namely White Beach on one side and Sabang on the other. Depending on what you prefer doing, I recommend Sabang for its relatively vibrant, lively nightlife; White Beach for its beautiful beach and the various water-based activities it has to offer; and the town itself for its local atmosphere and its views out over the bay.
If you enjoy diving, the local waters here are home to many species of plants and animals, which has led to the diving sector in this area enjoying a very good reputation. I was so pleasantly surprised by the large number of diving spots that I would say you could even come here for a whole diving holiday. Puerto Galera has just as much to offer experienced divers as it does novices, and that's without even mentioning the various sites where you can go snorkelling.
If diving isn't your thing, you have the option of lounging around and simply taking things easy White Beach – though I do recommend the beaches, to be found further on (less popular and less developed, yet more charming) – and it's also possible to go wild bathing in natural pools fed by waterfalls and meeting local people while you're at it (at the village of Iraya Mangyan for example).
