Lake Mitucocha forms the first stage of the magnificent Huayhuash trek, which is something you absolutely have to include on your tripif you're a mountain lover.
The first day of the walk is fairly easy in terms of distance covered (around ten kilometres). However, it can be challenging if you haven't first acclimatised yourself to the altitude by doing a few preliminary walks, in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range for example. When I did this walk, this introductory section was slightly spoiled by the rain (I was lucky enough not to have a single overcast day for the rest of the trek however), but I could already see that the landscape I was passing through was something special. And that was only the start. You'll discover, as you proceed along the route, that the scenery is quite simply out of this world.
