Not far from the Runkurakay ruins is Pakaymayu, a valley that is crossed during the famous Inca Trail trek.

My suggestion:
Caution - it is impossible to attempt the Inca Trail trek without using the services of a trekking agency.
My review

A number of travellers list the Inca Trail trek as one of the trips they would like to make at least once in their lives. It takes 4 days to travel the 45 kilometres of the most popular trek in Peru, one day of which is spent in the Inca Citadel ofMachu Picchu.

This fascinating trail will lead you through the Sacred Valley, to discover the Inca civilisation and its mysteries. Programme: Inca temples and ruins, verdant valleys, misty forests , terraced crops and remote villages... Along the way, you will also come across the most symbolic animal of Peru: the llama of course!

During the second day of our Peruvian trek, after visiting the Runkurakay and Sayaqmarca ruins, we discovered the beautiful valley belonging to the river Pakaymayu, where we spent the night. Other groups also made camp in the valley and our mule drivers competed for the best spots. We dined on rice and chicken before retiring to our tent for a well-deserved rest!
