Chilca is a seaside resort two hours from Lima by road. A spot taken over by surfers, Chilca is a relatively calm place which benefits from a mild climate all year round.
I ended up in Chilca a bit by chance. Gustavo, a Peruvian friend and talented surfer, was participating in a competition organised by the town. He suggested that I accompanied him. I accepted his invitation and there we were, squeezed into a little car, going in the direction of this little coastal town. Peruvian songs gave rhythm to our journey...
When we arrived, it was night time. We would have to wait until the following day to discover this little fishing town. Like the majority of Peruvian towns, it's the parade ground where you'll find the main monuments in Chilca including a rather nice market.
I hang onto a beautiful memory of my seaside weekend in Chilca between bathing, surf classes and delicious fish dishes. Don't hesitate to try the ceviche (marinated raw fish) and the parihuela (fish soup).
