I had the chance to explore the small Canocota Canyon during my three-day trek in the Colca Valley. Among our discoveries, we came across the charming village of Fure, as well as Lahuar. But the star attraction there is the Colca Canyon. 3,400 metres deep, it is the world's second deepest canyon after Cotahusi Canyon.
The geography of the region of Arequipa is perfect for trekking. Allow three to five days in order to have time to discover the lush gorges of the Colca Valley. On the itinerary are authentic Peruvian villages, thermal waters and cactuses galore.
Be aware that the trek through the Colca Canyon is quite tough and requires good fitness. In fact, the drops are quite big and the paths are sometimes right on the edge. Not recommended if you have a fear of heights...
