I thought this place was incredible: imagine, in the middle of nowhere, enormous mosaic frescos of the Byzantine Empire were rediscovered here, and they are in good condition! I started with the very pretty fortified village, then just having to walk for a short while to arrive in a complex of four churches. The most impressive and prettiest thing is the Saint-Etienne church, the River Jordan, as well as the main cities on both sides of Jordan during this era, notably Jerusalem, are depicted there.
In the surroundings, lots of villages have mosaics of churches dating from this era. In one of them, I came across a family who showed me the one that was located under their house, and today they manage visits of it. You can see the mark of fire on it, which is where the kitchen was located during their grandparents' era! It's crazy to imagine this region full of treasures still buried.
