The river island of Majuli is located on the Brahmaputra River, the river of Assam, a State of north-eastern India.

My suggestion:
Don't wait too long to visit Majuli. Studies forecast its disappearance. More than half of its surface has already disappeared as a result of river floods.
My review

Majuli, with the Kaziranga National Park, is a must-see site in Assam. It's a very laid-back place for a stay in India, with charming, comfortable guest houses.

The best way to visit Majuli is to hire bikes. You'll be able to visit the Island's Vaishnavite monasteries, called satras, such as Uttar Kamalabari or Auniati. They house monks of all ages and each person develops an artistic talent.

If the houses are perched on stilts, it's to better resist the rainy season. Notice the boats under the houses. You can easily imagine the daily lives of inhabitants of Majuli during the monsoon.

The islanders are very welcoming. We have even been invited to a wedding. Strangely, the bride only arrives during the middle of the night. We had a bus the following morning at sunrise and we couldn't even see her dress then!
