When you<a href="/canada/"> go to eastern Canada</a>, you have to go to Niagara Falls. It would be a shame not to stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This little town of 15,000 inhabitants seems not to have changed since the 19th century. I found a great deal of charm in its well-maintained, narrow streets with their flowerbeds and pots of flowers and the red brick houses with their white columns. However, I did draw a line at the carriage ride...just too naff! There are many wineries in this prolific wine-producing region, so I tasted some of the Ontario wines which proved to be very pleasant. I think it's the ideal place to stay, away from the craziness of Niagara Falls.
