The principal town in Chapada de Diamantina, at 400km from the Bahia State coast.

My suggestion:
If you like your food, then pay attention to what's on offer in the local hotels, as some serve breakfast buffets that beat the best American brunches; great if you're on a budget.
My review

It's true that most people associate Bahia with beaches and partying. But the state, being so large, has a lot more on offer, if you're intending to explore the region whilst on your trip to Brazil.

The little town of Lençóis has a village feel, (note that we're not talking about the dunes of Lençóis de Maranhenses) and it's a great place from which to discover one of Bahia's gems - the Chapada Diamantina National Park.

The town has a quite unique ambience, almost timeless. As a result, you'll feel really at ease and relaxed, which is not a bad thing, considering all the activities to do in the surrounding area. There are lots of small waterfalls, so I obviously took advantage of being able to cool off under their cascades. You'll also find natural toboggan runs, potholes and, of course, hikes across an ochre and green landscape that is breathtaking and diversely beautiful. It's a nature lover's dream come true!

And who knows, you may find a black diamond along the way, the very gems that, once upon a time, drew explorers to this region.
