Lying between Yerevan and the border with Georgia, Lori Province is a place of magnificent wild, mountainous scenery and monasteries that lie hidden out in the middle of nowhere.

My suggestion:
When exploring Lori Province, I recommend staying in the regional capital, the attractive little provincial city of Vanadzor.
My review

Lori Province is a vast region located in the north of the country and one of the essential places to see in Armenia, even if it's only to visit the two monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, which both stand proudly in majestic locations in the Debed Canyon and are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I also found this to be a charming region because of its capital, Vanadzor: a city with a population of around 100,000 which is as friendly and welcoming as it is lively, and which also serves as a good base from which to explore the surrounding region.

A very wild and natural area, Lori is crossed by high mountains, which means the chance to go on some wonderful hikes while in Armenia, even if proper tourist infrastructure and waymarking are sometimes lacking. And just as a final point, this is the region that was most affected by the terrible earthquake that struck the country in 1988.
