The Debed Valley boasts stunning views, particularly in the north of the country where, towards Alaverdi, you'll find a deep valley and spectacular gorges. There's a host of places to visit, not least its amazing monasteries that are over a thousand years old and often nestled in rocky, almost inaccessible, locations.
I have to admit that I found the valley a bit too overdeveloped for my liking. As a region that links Armenia with Georgia, industrialisation has taken a hold. The valley forms a major transport link, as seen by its roads, railways, power lines, mines and numerous industrial bases. Consequently, I found this considerably reduces the charm of the area, even though I still recommend you come here from Erevan for a day out during your holiday in Armenia.
