During my holiday in Venezuela and a visit to the archipelago by boat, we stopped off at Gran Roque. Following the sandy streets, we went to the airport. There was a celebration in the village where children were selling culinary specialities to raise money for their school after singing in the parade. They told us that they were honouring one of their patron saints.
Then we headed up to the lighthouse to admire the island. From the top, we could see the beautiful beaches as well as the village of Gran Roque and its colourful houses. On our way back, we bought "empanadas", specialities made of stuffed dough, from a small stall on the main street. We ate them on the beach and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
