Margarita Island is located in Venezuela, north of Caracas, in the Caribbean Sea.

My suggestion:
Margarita is a free zone where you can buy interesting duty-free items. There's also a great variety of activities and it has an international airport.
My review

I arrived in Porlamar on Margarita island while on holiday in Venezuela . It's far from being the most beautiful city, but we did do some shopping there. You should check out the prices in several of the shops and do some talking, that way you'll do some good business.

Contrary to what many people think, Porlamar is not the capital, La Asunción is. We visited Restinga Lagoon with its charming and romantically named canals and went for a bathe.

We travelled from creek to creek until we arrived in Juan Griego, a small town in the north. We admired a beautiful sunset from the fortress in Juan Griego before returning aboard our boat.
