The Spitzkoppe is a strange mountain in the heart of Damaraland with an astonishing view point and also an opportunity for a really lovely hike off the beaten track .

My suggestion:
Plan on at least a half day for the hike.
My review

I was able to admire the Spitzkoppe from afar , it is the only mountain in the middle of a huge plain, right in the heart of Damaraland and what is more, it has a rather peculiar shape. There is an entrance fee to pay and you can climb up it alone, apparently you have to be careful because of snakes and also mindful of where you step as the stone can be hard and sharp-edged.

There is not really any set path to ascend the Spitzkoppe , you just climb towards the top and the famous "bridge", a rock arch, the star of all the photographs. There is a superb view on the surroundings. It took me about 4 hours without encountering any major difficulties. The site is even more magnificent at sunrise or at sunset, but mind you do not get stuck because of nightfall.

It appears that there are also rock engravings on some of the mountain's rocks, but I did not come across any.
