Merzouga provides a gateway to part of the Sahara. In fact, the Merzouga desert itself is magnificent, measuring 30 miles long and about 3 miles wide. It is an expanse of golden dunes! Since I have also completed an excursion in the Zagora desert, I would recommend Merzouga desert more to you, the dunes there are almost red in colour and there is so much less vegetation compared to Zagora.Having already done the camel ride to Zagora, we decided to explore the desert on foot and we had a picnic on the dunes. Apart from the sand seeping into every bite we took, I have excellent memories of it. Then, we worked our way up the highest sand dune within our range. Blimey! It is not easy to climb up a sand dune! But the view that awaited us when we got to the top made it definitely worth all the effort!
