The Atlas is divided into three parts in Morocco: the Middle (the northernmost), the High (the centre) and the Anti-Atlas (the southernmost). The most spectacular part is most certainly the High Atlas with the Toubkal which rises to more than 4100 metres and the incredible High Valleys which surround it.
The scenery is absolutely stunning and breathtaking. I very much enjoyed the hospitality of the inhabitants, settled or nomadic, who are extraordinary. It is certainly one of the regions which I would recommend the most to visit while on <a href="/morocco/">a trip to Morocco</a>.
But the Atlas is not just mountains and perched villages , it is also rivers, lakes and magnificent waterfalls. Without forgetting the High Valleys of the Atlas, the Valley of Roses and of Dades, not to be missed.

The Atlas mountain range crosses through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The highest peak, known as Jbel Toubkal, is situated in the Moroccan part of the mountain range, it is more than 4000m above sea level.
In fact, the Atlas mountains are divided up into three main parts. To the south, you find Lesser Atlas, in the centre High Atlas and then more to the north you find the Middle Atlas. All three areas are perfect places to hike in and to discover the wonders of nature.
Jbel Toubkal is the highest peak of the Atlas mountains. Amongst other things, the place is renowned for its hiking. Personally, during <a href="/morocco/">my trip to Morocco</a>, I was travelling by car when I was lucky enough to come across and from my window watch the magnificent landscapes that make up the Atlas mountains pass before my eyes. It was amazing and more relaxing than hiking.

This mountain range has snowy peaks, whereas at the base of the mountains, the reddish and arid ground dominates. This setting which is nothing less than paradoxical is frankly magical.
