Kelimutu's three crater lakes are on Flores Island. They are at an altitude of 1,600 metres.

My suggestion:
If you are adventurous you could climb it in the early morning, so you can watch the sun rise over the island and the lakes.
My review

It's really wonderful being at the top of Kelimutu volcano where you can admire the glorious colours of the craters' lakes. The colours change with the weather, but also according to the chemical make up of the water, which varies according to volcanic activity.

There are lots of locals selling tea and coffee to make the adventure more bearable.

I chose a 3 hour trek leaving from Maumere but apparently it's possible to climb it in 20 minutes if you start nearer to it.

Of course, you are never alone in these places, and if you are there in high season then you can even expect a bit of a traffic jam if you arrive by car.

If you can, check the weather because clear weather is essential if you are going to enjoy this unique place.
