Lake Maninjau is a hidden secret still little known to travellers, a spectacular landscape where the real Indonesian character is to be found. On the path to the lake, you will see how the children greet you with a huge smile on their face and their little hands waving energetically. What is more, should you have a problem, the inhabitants will come to your rescue.
Located in a volcanic caldera, the lake offers a distinctive view, you will be able to see the shape of the crater clearly even though it is now covered in vegetation. What I liked most was seeing the architecture typical of the area with roofs that seem to be reaching for the sky.
The inhabitants who live around the lake survive thanks to fishing and to the fish-breeding farms that they make with bits of wood, which allows them to transport them to the sales outlets alive. A real show in Indonesia.
