Banjar is one of my favorite destinations in North Bali. It feels to me as if time is standing still here, and it's a place where you really can experience the traditional, authentic side of Bali. Something to go and see in Banjar is the Buddhist monastery, Brahma Asrama Vihara : a little haven of spirituality where you can try your hand at meditation, transported by the scent of the frangipani trees.
The "Air Panas", or hot springs, offer an experience not to be missed: plunge into the sacred, health-giving waters amid lush jungle. The ritual of taking a curative bath is part of everyday life for the Balinese people, who come here in large numbers. Modesty and respectfulness will therefore be much appreciated.
Finish off with a watermelon or a traditional Balinese dish; nirvana is not far away.
