The village of Batubulan, like Celuk, is one of the centres of Balinese art. But unlike Celuk which specialises in gold work and jewellery-making, Batubalan is famous for the numerous sculptors and stone cutters living there. Indeed, the village hosts a large number of workshops in which the locals practise their art and sell their products which are destined either for the local market, temples or dwellings or sold as souvenirs to travellers. If you want to bring back a five-foot tall Buddha or a half-ton Ganesha, you're in the right place.
On a more serious note, the work done by the sculptors of Batubulan is of very high standard and deserves to be seen. Another attraction not to be missed during your stay in Indonesia if you pass by Batubulan: the Barong dance, representing the battle between the forces of Good and Evil; the dances and costumes are incredible!
