The best time to travel in Czech Republic

Unless you want to ski or relax in the famous thermal baths, it's best to discover the Czech Republic during the warmer months.

The best months to visit the Czech Republic are May, June and September. You can also go in April and October, despite the cooler climate at these times of year, as well as July and August, the busiest but hottest months. Between October and March, however, most of the tourist attractions are closed. Between January and April you have the chance to ski!

The Czech Republic is an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts. Whether you choose the Sumava or the Krkonose mountains, or even the Moravian limestone plateau, you can enjoy walks against a stunning backdrop. And why not try out climbing or caving while you're there? Plan your visit ideally between May and September.

The country is also a top destination for skiing. We recommend the immaculate pistes of Spindlerun Mlyn between January and April, and the Sumavan countryside for cross-country skiing. One piece of advice: bring your own ski equipment so as to be sure of its quality.

You really must visit at least one typical castle during your stay. The Karlstejn, with its moat and ramparts, is certainly not to be missed. There you can taste the famous wine which was a favourite of the emperor. Also well worth a visit is the castle of Hluboka nad Vltavou, one of the most beautiful and romantic in the country. Aim to go between May and September, or during the months of April and October.

From May onwards is spa season in the Czech Republic. What could be better than a moment of pure wellbeing after a long walk? Choose the Karlovy Vary spa for activities linked to the mineral water's healing qualities and the springtime celebrations in early May, or enjoy waffles, cakes and liqueurs at Lednice. You can even take a boat trip in the castle grounds. You might also choose Luhacovice, or why not Franzenbad... There's no shortage of spa resorts in the Czech Republic! As lovely as it is to take part in May's springtime celebrations, you can of course indulge in a spa break at any time of year.

You should visit at least one medieval town during your trip. Kutna Hora is one of the most beautiful amongst them, and its cathedral, as well as its traditional pubs, are bound to win you over. Also not to be missed is Tabor, with its charming little medieval streets. And who could forget the beautiful Cesky Krumlov, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site? Visit, preferably, between May and September, or during April or October.
