I was shocked when I arrived at Taganga. The tourist guide descriptions of a quaint little fishing village were nothing like the ultra-touristy seaside resort that greeted me. There were far too many people on the beach for me to relax and unwind.
At the same time, there are plenty of activities on offer - deep sea diving, snorkelling, beach volleyball etc. You can also organise excursions, including a visit to the Tayrona National Natural Park.
If, during your holiday in Colombia, you're after some peace and quiet, give this one a miss. If, however, you're a party animal and social butterfly, then this is the place for you. One piece of advice...make sure you withdraw cash in Santa Maria as there's only one cashpoint in Taganga and it wasn't working when I was there.
