The Cocora Valley's exotic and lush scenery is perfect for walks and enjoying some superb views. Its giant palm trees make it a must during a visit to the Coffee Triangle.
My suggestion:
Departures to the Corcora Valley start at 9am from the square in Salento. Many of the guides charge exhorbitant prices and will tell tales of tourists getting lost when out on their own. However, you'll actually find that the trail is well sign posted.
My review
We had a really good night's sleep in Salento, a little village with colourful, traditional houses and the closest place to the valley. There are loads of things to see and do in the area - visiting farms, the Coffee Route along with walks and waterfalls.
We decided to do a day's tour of the Cocora Valley. The journey to the park's entrance by four-wheel drive was through spectacular scenery. We started off by following a little stream that lead into a small jungle. If you head up the path you'll reach a colibri farm where you can stop for a 'bol d’agua de panela' (a regional hot drink) and some local cheese. I can't tell you how calming it was to sit back and watch these little hummingbirds as they foraged in the flowers that surrounded us. Being so close to them provided the perfect photo opportunity!
The rest of our walk was in the heart of the Corcora Valley, which is home to huge palm trees, by which you can sit and admire the landscape...under the beady eye of grazing cows.
It's a great day out and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
