Why not include a stop at Chicamocha National Park on your itinerary for Colombia? Lying between Bucaramanga and San Gil, it's a very easy place to get to, and the journey by bus is quite spectacular (or terrifying, depending on your point of view).
I personally didn't do any extreme sports here but instead contented myself with walking the park's various paths and trails and admiring the splendid views of the canyon; it is a bit of a pity, however, that there are so many things built for tourists in this area! Something else there is here is a cable car system over six kilometres in length. It's a bit expensive to ride, but the return trip lasts more than 30 minutes and you have 360° views from the car at the bottom of the canyon and get two enjoy two different vantage points at the top. It's definitely something not to miss!
