Barichara is a small town located in Colombia's northeast.

My suggestion:
Don't do as I did and visit on a Monday: everything was closed, including the little museum and many of the shops.
My review

Barichara is a typical Colombian town and a good place to spend a relaxing break when visiting Colombia. People come here for the architecture, the peace and calm, and the local environment.

Though I only spent a few hours in Barichara in the middle of the day one Monday, I fell in love with this timeless little place. The town itself is very calm and peaceful, and you won't encounter many tourists here. I really loved strolling up and down the streets of this picturesque town and exploring the whole place, with its historic old houses and ochre-paved streets. There are beautiful views out over the surrounding countryside to be had from the highest part of the town and from the path behind the little chapel.

The more intrepid and energetic also have the option of walking the nine kilometres to Guane. Personally, I preferred relaxing and taking things easy at the central square, enjoying pastries purchased from the town's bakery and watching the local children and adults at the school entrance after lessons had finished for the day!
