Just 15 km from the very touristy, but magnificent Villa de Leyva, the Iguaque Flora and Fauna Sanctuary covers seven lagoons, including the sacred lagoon of Iguaque, birthplace of humanity for the Muisca people and the unique paramo ecosytem.

My suggestion:
Dress in warm clothing (even boots in the rainy period) and sun cream, a requirement due to the altitude (more than 2,700 m)!
My review

As with all of Colombia's natural parks, the Iguaque Flora and Fauna Sanctuary is an incredible ecotourism destination, whose fauna and flora are very well maintained. Psychedelic scenery, lagoons originating from glaciers with crystal-clear water and lush vegetation are on the agenda! It's possible to visit the park in one day (asthmatics, non-sporty people and smokers please be careful, as the altitude tends to take your breath away), but I preferred to spend the day walking from Villa de Leyva and sleep there.

I was lucky to come across a group of botany students on a school outing, which meant I could benefit from their entertaining and educational games to learn more about the nature unique to the Colombian paramo.
