Located in north eastern Hunan Province, the city and prefecture of Zhangjiaji is best known for its superb national park and forest.

My review

Together with the Tianzi Mountains and the Suoxi Valley, the national park forms the Wulingyan Region, classified as a site of outstanding beauty and historic interest by UNESCO.

Extremely popular with Chinese visitors, Zhangjiaji National Park and the surrounding area are certainly worthy of a few days of your time during a visit to China. In fact, the park hosts a surprising biodiversity, several endangered animal species, rare trees, rivers and, the star attraction, a a forest made up of hundreds of karst peaks to create a unique landscape. Multiple itineraries are on offer for hiking enthusiasts, who can choose between conquering the park solo or in the company of a local guide.

Did you know: Zhangjiaji Park and its surprising peaks inspired and served as the template for the floating mountains on the planet of Pandora in James Cameron's 2009 movie ,Avatar.
