Due to the proximity of Yuhu Lake, the water is never very far away here. The lake can be reached on foot and there are superb views of the surrounding peaks to be had there.
The inhabitants of Yuhu are members of the Nakhi ethnic group, whose traditional mountain houses are constructed from "monkey head" stone, a material halfway between stone and dried mud. Where accommodation is concerned, choose the option of staying with local residents, who will introduce you to their ancestral traditions.
There are various hiking trails leading to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from the village. One of them enables you to reach the village of Wenhai. A local guide is more or less essential.
